G7 Leaders’ Summit — Kananaskis
For the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit, Kate led a high-stakes, multidisciplinary program for host property Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge. She served as the property’s acting on-site communications and crisis lead with world leaders present, led the build of a digital media hub for more than 500 international journalists, and brought Kananaskis into the Banff International Media Centre through an information booth and live guest experience.
The Challenge
Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge was preparing to host world leaders, dignitaries and their teams inside one of the country’s most secure event environments. International journalists, broadcasters, technicians and government delegates would be based 50 kilometres away at the Banff International Media Centre.
The Lodge needed to manage the operational and communications demands of the summit while finding meaningful ways to introduce Kananaskis to a global audience. Every detail had to work within strict security, government and diplomatic requirements.
What Kate Did
Over seven months, Kate led work across a $340,000 multi-partner program for Pomeroy Resorts and Explore Kananaskis. She worked within and reported against the shared program budget while coordinating with the Lodge team, CIPR Communications, Global Affairs Canada, the RCMP and regional partners.
Hatch co-authored the property’s crisis communications plan and developed a summit-specific version for the event. During the summit, she served as Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge’s acting on-site communications and crisis lead, managing fast-moving issues and coordinating with Lodge leadership, government and security partners.
Kate led the build of the Explore Kananaskis Discovery Library, working with CIPR Communications to create a permanent digital media hub for the summit. It launched with more than 100 story ideas and hundreds of images, videos and downloadable assets for international media, tourism partners and local businesses.
She planned and activated the Explore Kananaskis information booth and live s’mores experience at the Banff International Media Centre. She also led on-site content capture across Kananaskis and Banff, working with a photography team that included Malcolm Carmichael, who documented the 2002 G8 Summit.
Her work extended into the guest and media experience. Kate supported the G7 Global Cocktail Series, delivered a Select Wines of Western Canada tasting, helped launch a made-in-Kananaskis hot sauce and supported the rollout of co-branded G7 merchandise.
The Result
The summit generated more than 86,000 media stories across over 20 countries, with an estimated media value of $1.6 billion and 175 billion impressions.
Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge came through the summit with a tested crisis communications framework, a substantial bank of original content, new guest-facing products and a stronger destination platform. The Discovery Library remains a permanent resource for media, tourism partners and local businesses.
This is the kind of work Kate and Hatch are built for: high-stakes hospitality and destination projects that require senior communications leadership, calm crisis management, complex partner coordination and hands-on execution from planning through live delivery.
